Activity: Avatar Classroom
Date: 3/7/14
Group: Classroom Technology and Audiovisual Services
Time spent: 2 hours
I assisted Stan with setting up and configuring Skype in order to connect with the University of Central Florida’s TeachLive Lab. The lab is actually a virtual classroom that uses student avatars to train teachers and improve student learning. The event was hosted by the GRU College of Education. Participants included teachers, school board leaders, and superintendents from across several counties in the state of Georgia. Each participant got to interact with every avatar by asking them questions. The TeachLive facilitator “amped up” the behavior of each avatar to show the participants how classroom management issues could be addressed. The whole event was awesome. I see this kind of environment as a valuable resource for teacher education and preparation.
